About Us
The Beginning
The company was started back in 2013 by Robert Gliddon. He trained with the guild and became qualified in July 2013, working throughout Essex and parts of Kent initially. Various newspaper articles were written about him, one being in the Essex Chronicle Newspaper as he'd chosen to leave a successful life in the city working in Insurance and take up the trade of chimney sweeping.
Growth
The company soon became a well thought off and respected service growing very well in the next few years. I've always known my Dad to be very hard working, determined and knowledgeable so I knew he'd make a success of it. But having now taken over the company I can hear first hand all the compliments our long standing customers and newer ones have for my Dad.
Where we are now
In February 2021, Robert's wife (John's Mum) passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly from a brain aneurysm leaving a big whole in our lives. My Dad spoke to me around a month after it had happened and stated that he had always planned to retire at some point fairly soon, and that now seemed like the best time.
I asked if he would be happy for me to take over the company and he was delighted that I'd want to follow in his footsteps and began to arrange a few days a week to shadow him and learn the trade.
After a few months of training with my Dad I passed the Guild of Master Chimney Sweeps training course in July 2021 and in September began my first season of chimney sweeping.
It's all been going great and I, like my father, left a very different type of job to pursue chimney sweeping, as well as having a degree in sports coaching, and haven't looked back!
I've always taken pride in my work, have been a friendly and approachable person, and am a handy with great versatility so I think I'm well suited to the job and am looking forward to continuing bringing the Gliddon's friendly and professional service to your home!
